The Minnie Moo Company Story

I became a Mum on the 29th March 2007 at 09:45; I experienced the difficulties and challenges of becoming a parent like every other new parent does. The caring, worrying and finally the agonising truth of not knowing if you’re doing right or wrong did finally drive me completely insane.

In my previous job I worked from 7.30am to 6.30pm for a handful of boisterous boys; who thought they were Men. I had to multi-task, organise, manipulate and manage my day, under what I use to believe was stressful conditions.

Life hasn’t changed too much except my hours are longer and I only have one boisterous little boy to look after, the only difference is if I get it wrong the consequences could be detrimental to my new bosses life and he’s so counting on me to get it right!

So there’s so much to do, so much to think about in between those short little snoozes, making sure the bottles are sterilised, the clothes are clean and the nappies are put in the bin or on the line. Simplifying parenthood to make it easier is what the Minnie Moo is all about. Keeping things simple and practicle so that I can spend more time with Ben.

Mums Idea: The Minnie Moo

A Cotton Car Seat Cover was designed for a specific baby in mind, our son Ben. He gets very hot and smelly whilst travelling and always seemed to be uncomforable in his car seat. By 10 weeks old he was a bit of a jet setter and before long his car seat started to get really mucky and I struggle to keep it clean. His Maxi Cosi cabrio was covered in suncream, sweat and formula and keeping his temerature down was becaming a real problem!

In June 2007 whilst staying with my Parents in Spain when I noticed that Ben was about to steam cook in his infant Car Seat. He was soaked through with sweat and the shade from the hood was acting more like a greenhouse.

“This really wasn’t going to do and I though there must be a better way!”

It was then started to notice that the Spanish all had lovely matching car seat covers and large cotton canopies which kept their babies cool, comfy and protected thier car seats. I soon bought one (very expensive) and I couldn’t believe the difference. My little boy was really comfortable, unfortunately his car seat was already dirty but at east my little boy didn’t have to sit in the mess and I could easily remove, wash and replace very easily.

So How Did I get Started with the Minnie Moo

I thought this was a really great idea and felt that it needed to be shared with other parents, so I made a prototype and found a manufacuter, who has now become a good friend and partner in the business.

We worked on improvments, safety standards and patterns over the next 6 months. We had a lot of fun and it was a very steep learning curce. I had some help from Business Links and read and lot of articles on the Internet, there where plenty of blogs on the internet about Mum starting thier own businesses.

“My Mum use to call me Minnie Moo when I was a young girl, mum still calls me Min’ today! Minnie Moo seemed as good a name for a business as any….

I then had a image of a black and white cow print car seat cover and thought, yes! My manufacture thought I was crazy but still he arrange for one tobe made in Cow Print and that’s how the Minnie Moo came of exisistance.

We launched the original business, My Moo at The Baby Show 2008 at Excel London. It was an incredible 3 days, I never believed we would get as much attention as we did from the ‘NurseryIndustry’ and I wasn’t really sure what to do with all. The Glasgow Pram Center wanted the Minnie Moo on one of thier stand, we had distributors wanting to take the product on and Mums were so accepting and complimentary of the new product and idea . After the show we sold the Minnie Moo from our Website and an ebay Shop and within 3 months we sold out.
